The thread to the south
The Mother of Nightmares fell silent, but the Blight did not end at the bottom of the swamp: a thread runs south from the Cradle — and leads to the Throne.
After the Cradle the world turned out to be far larger than it looked from the Square. South of the Swamp of the Sleepers lie seven Reaches — salt, ice, ash, sky, the deep, blood and the Underside — and each holds four lands that the Blight keeps through its lords.
There are still people there: they hold out by the campfires and wait for someone to clear the land. The thread passes through every Reach as a knot — a lord — and comes together at the Throne of the Blight: from here, as the land itself says, the Blight rules the world.
